The modern classroom has changed from years gone by as we equip our learners with digital literacy skills and hands on learning opportunities. A 21st century education consists of collaborative learning through discussion and brainstorming with teacher facilitated instruction. Creating spaces that are unique to each learner and unique to each school's needs.
Like students, every learning or childcare space is unique. We can help you create exactly the kind of learning environment you need to accommodate curriculum, activities, age range, and a host of other factors that impact room layout. Our experts understand how to place furniture and create “flow” among areas to help children feel comfortable, confident, and creative as they learn and grow.
The school laboratory is the first exposure for most young people to many scientific disciplines. Encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, observation and experimentation, it's necessary that laboratory environments are designed and built to facilitate learning.
School cafeterias represent a key design opportunity. As a hub where students come together, school cafeterias can be fundamental in helping to build a sense of community. Besides serving meals, cafeterias can fill a variety of other roles as well, such as doubling as a “learning commons” where students gather to study or socialize—or transforming into a banquet hall for hosting dances and community events.
These spaces are radically changing as technology and collaborative learning are becoming the essence of education moving forward. The range of activities that can be facilitated in libraries and shared learning spaces is unique to each school and space. They can allow for collaborative learning to quiet and reflective learning. Incorporating storage, surfaces and flexible seating in these spaces are an essential element of allowing for their versatility.
Today, computer labs have a new function as learning spaces. A modern computer lab serves as a home for collaboration, and Esports — just to name a few. With a change in the function of computer labs, learning space design in computer labs has had to change as well. The focus is becoming more about collaboration and creativity, which is aligned to what students will encounter in college and the workplace!
Art education is integral to how students learn about self-expression and develop their creative interests. It is well suited for addressing learning elements including, but not limited to applying acquired knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achievements. Art education spaces should encourage students of all ages to tap into their creativity and feel welcomed into that process. We do this by designing spaces that are both inviting and functional. Where you locate your art spaces is important to driving curiosity.
There are several different learning styles that children and adults have. They can be visual learners, auditory learners, learn better in collaborative groups, or learn best by reading and researching on their own. Design a space to facilitate both large groups and individual 1:1 learning. These spaces can also be used for an educator led inquiry based learning activity that requires the students to provide constant feedback during the lesson.
The days of a teacher lecturing at the front of the room for hours a day are over. Society demands more lessons facilitated by the educator, then handing over the reins to the students. Our designs are perfect for this concept. These spaces can be imagined in anyway, including both free-form furniture options as modular seating and table configurations to suit the learning activity. By nature these spaces facilitate both student and teacher presentations and discussions. These learning spaces are ideal for large group instruction.
Moving from traditional single purpose staff rooms to creating staff spaces that cater toward collaboration, individual work, Rest, and communal social spaces will provide the framework for purposeful teacher interaction. This will be an environment that ensures group collaboration and planning. We also design school office spaces and any other administration spaces your school may require. These spaces can be both defined separately within the school or incorporated as part of the cohesive learning space.
